Depends on the brand of the CD-RW, the brand of the actual media, the software in use and how much of a cache the Drive has (Example 2MB, 8MB, etc) If you have a good drive with BurnProof protection, it is becoming less and less of a problem. How do you create a data CD? You need a few things, a CD recorder, software that does the recording process and data on your hard drive. You can create a CD with data from your hard drive or rather you can copy this data to the CD-ROM. Writing to CD-Rs and/or CD-RWs requires a CD recorder. You can't write CDs with an ordinary CD-ROM drive. The process can be different for different recorders. If you have “packet writing" software, and a recorder that supports it, the process is very similar to coping data on a floppy. With other software you usually end up writing everything to the disc all at once. When you're doing the writing you can't interrupt the drive, and you can't reclaim the space you've used. What is the difference between CD-R and CD-RW?CD-R means "CD-Recordable". Recordable CDs are Write Once, Read Multiple type of media that work just like standard CDs. The advantage of CD-R over other types of optical media is that you can use the discs with a standard CD player. The disadvantage is that you cannot copy or record data more than once. You can only copy data once and only at one-time. CD-Rewritable or CD-RW allows you to reuse them or copy data files multiple times on the same disc. However, not all CD-RW media works in all players. A note, all CD recorders can read CD or CD-ROM disc. Not today <smile>. A CD and DVD are formatted very differently, so you cannot write DVDs with a CD recorder. Maybe in the future, the technology will change. However, DVD recorders can work with DVD-R and CD-R.
