DVD Reader and Writer

DVD – Digital Video Disk is an external optical storage device. It is essentially a bigger and a faster CD that can hold a huge amount of data. A single channel DVD can store approximately 4 GB of digital data. A DVD produces high quality pictures and videos. However, in order for you to get the best output, the data must be stored and read efficiently. There comes the need to have a good DVD Reader/Writer.

A DVD writer enables you to convert your personal data into a digital format. The digitally converted data consumes less of space.  A DVD player is an optical device that creates pits on the shiny surface of the disc. It uses laser technology and writes data on the disc in the binary form i.e. 0 and 1 where ‘0’ is identified as the stored data and ‘1’ depicts plain surface. Now, let’s talk about a DVD reader. It reads the data in the same manner. If the laser beam gets reflected it reads ‘1’ which is a plain surface and if it gets absorbed it reads ‘0’ which is digitally stored data.

Despite the fact that a DVD can store a huge amount of data, portable, faster and has a longer self life it needs great care. One has to be meticulous how one carries the DVD’s.

If one has to purchase a DVD reader/writer, one must consider the following:

  • What is the speed of the DVD reader/writer
  • Whether the device drivers are available or not
  • Whether the company provides after sales services or not
  • Customer support is available or not
  • Is it a single channel or a dual channel DVD reader/writer
  • It should support maximum number of formats

If you are getting the above mentioned characteristics in a DVD player then you are getting a product worth your money.
